Maple Leafs Defenceman Carlo Returns to Skating Practice
The Toronto Maple Leafs received a positive update on their injured defenceman, Brandon Carlo, who skated in a side session before practice on Saturday, according to David Alter of The Hockey News. This marks a significant step forward in his recovery from a lower-body injury that has sidelined him since early December.
Carlo's injury occurred earlier in the season, when he last appeared in a game on November 13 against the Los Angeles Kings. Initially considered day-to-day, he was eventually placed on injured reserve retroactive to that date. Despite the setback, Carlo has been a valuable asset to the team, contributing two assists in 18 games this season, his first full year with the Maple Leafs.
He joined the team in a trade with the Boston Bruins at the last season's trade deadline, bringing in a first-rounder, a fourth-rounder, and prospect Fraser Minten. The Maple Leafs are set to host the Ottawa Senators in the upcoming Battle of Ontario, returning to action after the holiday break. The team's recent performance has been a rollercoaster, winning their last game against the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 but losing five of the six contests leading up to that victory. As of Saturday, the Leafs are 16-15-5 and stuck at the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings.
